The time honoured Stettler tradition of lighting the Main Street tree happened during Moonlight Madness.
During this popular shopping event, people start to make their way to the tree for the annual lighting at 6:00 pm. As in previous years, the citizens of the year have the honour of flipping the switch.
This year’s female citizen of the year, Wendy Staal, was a solo act when male citizen of the year, Dean Lovell, had a previous engagement.
Luckily, Dean is a good friend of Santa’s, and let him know Wendy may need some help lighting the tree.
Wendy and Mayor Sean Nolls lead the crowds in the classic carol Here Comes Santa Claus and to the crowd’s delight, Santa arrived in a horse-drawn sleigh to assist with the tree lighting.
Good thing Santa was there because a slight glitch left the tree dark after the switch was flipped, but with a little magic from Santa, the stunning tree lit up, drawing applause and cheers from the crowd!
