he Stettler public has responded to a rallying cry for support for our local hospital.

A meeting was held in the Red Arena of the S-R-C on July 25 by the “Stettler Needs Doctors” committee to explain the ongoing issue of doctor recruitment.

Officials from Alberta Health Services were on hand to receive questions, as well as the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta, to explain the regulatory & approval processes for doctors.

Stettler has been deemed a “community in crisis,” with a shortage of physicians, particularly in anesthesiology and child delivery services. According to the campaign’s website, Stettler currently employs 7 doctors, while upwards of 16 are needed for our area.

Since beginning their campaign, the “Stettler Needs Doctors” committee has sold over 800 signs, with proceeds going towards incentives to attract physicians to the community.

County of Stettler Reeve, Larry Clarke noted the contacts made with A-H-S and the C-P-S-A will be beneficial moving forward as the Town & County look to attract doctors to the area.
