Stettler Town Council has voted to extend their doctor recruitment incentive policy for another two years.

The policy now has an expiry date of Dec. 31, 2026. Since it was signed in July 2024, a number of efforts have been made to recruit doctors to the area.

According to www.stettlerneedsdoctors.ca, three doctors have signed the agreement to come practice in Stettler.

Two more are in the process of being interviewed by AHS according to the November update.

In partnership with the County of Stettler, the “Physician Recruitment & Retention Incentive” compensates new doctors between $50,000-$70,000.

Each organization is responsible for between $25,000 to $35,000, depending on the position and qualifications.

In particular, Stettler is in need of general practitioners, anesthesiology & child delivery services.

The incentive must be paid back in full if their contract lasts under two years, or at a prorated amount if they leave the community in between two & five years.

Specialists are entitled to the full amount upon five years of service in the community.
