A local spot for coffee, snacks & clothing has abruptly closed as of February 3.
Hometown Media Stettler dropped by the Sweet Home on Main cafe & clothing store to deliver the monthly Hometown Express and discovered the doors to be locked on Monday morning.
In a message posted to their Sylvan Lake Home on The Lake Facebook page, Cody & Eva Borek state, “Unfortunately, despite all of our efforts, ongoing financial struggles, legal delays, and high-interest borrowing have made it impossible to continue.
Our lender, who holds our inventory and fixtures as collateral, will be taking possession, forcing us to close our doors permanently.
This is not how we wanted this story to end. We wanted to keep building, keep serving, and keep creating a space where people felt at home. But today, we must say goodbye.”

Since losing access to their parking lot in Sylvan Lake last year, a plea was made to the public to purchase $200 Sweet Home gift cards for $100 to be used at their locations throughout Alberta.

Controversy has erupted online since the closure notice over the sale of the gift cards, as many people are now left with unusable balances.

Some area businesses have offered to take Sweet Home gift cards in exchange for discounts on some of their services.
The news follows the closure of the Thrifty by Sweet Home shop next door in December, as Sweet Home announced they would be closing some of their other locations for the winter.
In a follow-up post on Tuesday morning, the Boreks said they were given notice last week they would be going into receivership.

Hometown Media Stettler reached out to the Borek’s for comment. However, a response was not received in time for release.
