The cost of watering the local football field was on the agenda at Stettler Town Council on April 1.
The Clearview school division made a request of council to waive the sewer charge fee on their water bills at the fieldhouse to help reduce the cost of maintaining the field.
When asked about the cost of watering the field, administration reported an estimate of just over $14,000 in 2024, from the utility account that includes both the field & fieldhouse.
The Town of Stettler bylaw states all non-residential utility accounts shall pay 40% of the water bill/month or $23.25 per month whichever is greater for sewer collection & treatment.
After some discussion, council approved the staff recommended motion to give Clearview permission to plumb a separate line from the fieldhouse to the field.
A seasonal water meter would then be placed in the new line from May to October to measure irrigation use.
This way sewer charges would still apply to the fieldhouse and a second utility account would have sewer charges waived.
In 2003, the Town of Stettler council approved a similar request from the Stettler Golf & Country Club.
