Post secondary opportunities in Stettler was a topic of discussion at a session held recently by the Stettler Adult Learning Centre.
The event at the Stettler United Church on April 21, brought different community groups & business owners together to brainstorm ideas on the kinds of courses that could be brought to the area.
“So we had town councillors, we had business partners, we had the agriculture society, we had a number for non-profits, so a number of people who were just thinking about what we can do for social enterprise and to better serve adult learning.” says Stettler Adult Learning Centre Executive Director Patrick Paulo.
One issue highlighted was a need to bridge the gap between employer needs and employee skill levels, and how government and organizations can get involved.
Ensuring these groups & organizations are communicating their resources with each other was another point brought up, as services are often available, but the awareness of them is lacking in the community.
Mayor Sean Nolls was in attendance and spoke with Hometown Media Stettler after the event.
“I think that was really one of the most interesting parts of this, is this really showed how much the Adult Learning Center can connect people.
It’s always a really good conversation when you have that many people in the room that actually have access to all the services in town to find out some of the things that maybe we’re not connecting on.”
Following the brainstorming session, the SALC gathered the feedback they received from stakeholders and will take it into consideration.

An idea proposed was to set up a volunteer event similar to the repair cafe at the SRC, where students could visit booths to see what kind of prospective courses are available to take within Stettler and the central Alberta region.
