Stettler Town council has passed all three readings of an updated cemetery bylaw, marking the first revision to the legislation since 2016.

The bylaw, approved at the May 20 council meeting, includes several fee increases for services at the Lake View Cemetery. The cost of a resident burial plot will rise from $300 to $700, while non-resident plots will increase from $500 to $900, plus a $100 perpetual care fee.

Fees for columbarium niches for cremated remains will remain unchanged at $750, plus a $100 perpetual care fee.

The bylaw also includes changes to the cost of opening and closing graves, with rates varying depending on the time of year.

In addition to the fee adjustments, the bylaw also prohibits the burial of pets in the cemetery and provides updated guidelines on the placement and maintenance of monuments.
