Two new Community Builders monuments were unveiled May 23 to honour local pioneers Thomas Asa Edgar “Ace” Pratt and Catherine Margaret “Kay” Anderson.
Pratt was recognized for his contributions to livestock marketing. His daughter, Elaine Skocdopole, spoke at the ceremony about how her father and Charlie McKay co-founded the Stettler Auction Mart.
McKay, who already has a monument along the same path, shared a vision with Pratt to build a thriving auction business in Stettler. Skocdopole recalled how her father would auction off “fence posts and all” just to sharpen his skills.

Anderson was honoured as a key figure in preserving local history. Her passion for antiques and heritage led to the creation of the Stettler and District Museum in the 1970s on the site it still occupies today.
Now known as the Stettler Town & Country Museum, it has grown into the fifth-largest pioneer museum in Alberta.
