County of Stettler council has passed first reading on an amendment to its land use bylaw to construct a temporary fire hall.

On May 21, 2025, county council unanimously agreed to create a regional fire commission, and to withdraw from the regional fire agreement with the Town of Stettler.

The July 9 amendment is required for the County’s plan to house Stettler County Fire Services on the site at Highway 12 & 38 Street.

The bylaw looks to add Emergency Service as a permitted use under highway mixed-use zoning. A public hearing has been set for August 13, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. to gather input.

The Stettler Regional Fire Department will continue to provide fire protection until the new governance model is in place.

Part of the structure on the eastern edge of Stettler is also set to be the future home of Storm Mountain Outfitters.
