The County of Stettler has approved the purchase of a new fire command unit to support emergency response operations within the Stettler Regional Fire Department.
At its July 9 meeting, council authorized the purchase of a 2026 Ford F-350 Crew Cab XL pickup from Metro Ford Sales Ltd. of Tsuut’ina, Alta., for $84,886 plus GST, bringing the total cost to $89,130.30.
The County’s 2025 Capital Budget had included some funding for the replacement of Squad 6, with the full amount eventually being cut from the final budget.
The new pickup is expected to be more versatile in rough terrain when setting up command posts at incident scenes.
Council discussed whether to finance the vehicle or to purchase it. Following a vote, they decided to fund it from their reserves.
The current Squad 6 will be repurposed as a secondary unit once the new command vehicle is in service.
