The County of Stettler will be implementing a speed limit reduction on a pair of rural roads on the outskirts of Stettler.

Operations staff have identified part of Township Road 39-2 & Range Road 19-3 as an area of growing concern, due to high traffic volumes, safety concerns & rising maintenance demands.

Council approved a recommendation to reduce the speed limit to 60 km/hr from the current 80 km/hr come September during their July 23 meeting.

The County has been applying dust control products to the road however, the effectiveness of the dust suppressant is being diminished by vehicles driving excessive speeds.

Traffic counts conducted between January & March 2025 recorded an average of 169 vehicles per day.

Staff will notify nearby property owners, install new signage & deploy electronic speed displays to help drivers adjust to the change set to take effect on September 1st.
