Town council has approved a $34,568 contract to address odor problems at the Stettler lagoon system.

Administration noted the wastewater lagoons have performed well in recent years with few complaints, but odor reports have increased significantly this year.

Bacteria treatments are used to reduce sludge & control odors at the site made up of nine lagoon cells to the north of Stettler.

ACC Wastewater Solutions has proposed a new treatment plan that includes adding aeration at two of the lift stations, as well as additional products designed to target commercial & industrial waste.

Council approved the $34,568 proposal, excluding GST to ACC Wastewater Solutions during their Aug 19 meeting.

The 2025 lagoon treatment operating budget was $40,000, with $14,000 remaining at this time. Administration expects to bring an increase in the lagoon operating budget to council in 2026.
