
A new play feature is coming to the Stettler Aquatic Centre after town council approved $48,000 for the project.
The investment will replace the facility’s rainbow arch spray feature, and add a new slide and spray elements, designed by HUB Aquatic Solutions.
Earlier this year, the centre installed two raccoon-themed water cannons. Expansion plans considered a Wild West train slide, but the dimensions were too large for the available deck space & would have required drilling into the pool basin.
$35,000 had been set aside in the 2025 capital budget for the wild west train slide, with the remainder to be funded from general reserves.
The new proposal includes a slide & spray features, as well as owl characters to complement the raccoons, Bartholomew & Randall.
Administration recommended the council allocate $48,000 in total to cover shipping fluctuations & additional costs.
$35,000 had been set aside in the 2025 capital budget for the wild west train slide, as administration returned to council to ask them to change the scope of the project.
Council was told on September 2nd that the structure will be built in Mexico, and should arrive in the next 8 to 10 weeks.
Town staff will then assemble the piping & play structure once it arrives. Council directed the remaining $13,000 to be funded from general reserves.
