A proposed rental housing development for adults 55 and older in Stettler has been cancelled.
The Wellings of Stettler project held a groundbreaking ceremony in September 2022 and was then delayed for two years until development permits came to council in October 2024.

Developer Nautical Lands Group confirmed to Hometown Media Stettler the project will not be proceeding.
The company’s vice-president of marketing said in an email that the group is no longer moving forward due to delays and the market in general, and has started more projects elsewhere.
The plan had included a constructed wetland & boardwalk south of the site at 48 Avenue and 70 Street, in consultation with Alberta Environment.

The development agreement outlined three phases, beginning with 117 row-style rental housing units & a clubhouse for group activities.
Wellings operates other 55-plus communities in Brooks, Lloydminster and several locations in Ontario.
Hometown Media Stettler reached out to the Town for comment following the decision to cancel the project.
“We are of course, disappointed by this decision,” said Mayor Sean Nolls.
“Our team worked diligently to support bringing this project to Stettler. While the outcome is not what we had hoped for, we respect the decision and remain committed to positioning our community as a prime destination for future opportunities.”
“We remain confident in Stettler’s potential and continue to actively pursue other economic development initiatives.” added Mayor Nolls.
