Residents of the County of Stettler will have an opportunity to hear from local council candidates at a forum on Wednesday evening. (Oct. 8)
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for those not attending the earlier Clearview School Division forum, with the event running from 7 to 9 p.m.
Five of the seven wards within the County of Stettler have contested races.
Ward 1 (Byemoor-Endiang) will elect a new councillor, as Les Stulberg has decided to retire. The candidates here are Tyler Ainsworth & Clint Walker.
In Ward 2 (Big Valley), incumbent Dave Grover faces Wade Hunter.
Ward 5 (Stettler) will also see a new representative, following Ernie Gendre’s retirement. Three candidates are running in Allan Gano, Darryl Keibel & David Uden.
Ward 6 (Erskine-Buffalo Lake) features incumbent Justin Stevens against Rosalind LaRose, while Ward 7 (Donalda-Red Willow) has incumbent Paul McKay facing Janet Adam.
Meanwhile, two of the seven council seats have been acclaimed. Larry Clarke will return as the councillor for Ward 3 (Botha-Gadsby), while James Nibourg has been acclaimed for Ward 4 (Erskine-South Warden).
Advance polls will be held at the County of Stettler Administration Building on Oct. 16 & 17 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Election day for the five contested council seats is Oct. 20. A full list of polling stations is available at www.StettlerCounty.ca
