The Town of Stettler says a recent odd taste and smell in its drinking water has largely cleared up after adjustments at the local water treatment plant.

In a statement to Facebook, the town said the issue was caused by a combination of unusually warm fall temperatures & lower than normal river water levels, which affected the source water entering the treatment system.

Town staff say the water has remained safe to drink throughout, meeting all provincial health & safety standards despite the earthy taste & odor noticed by residents over the weekend.

Water treatment crews have since made adjustments to address the issue & the town says residents should continue to see steady improvement in water quality.

Officials thanked residents for their patience & said the system will continue to be closely monitored.
