Bernadette (Bernie) Jackson, longtime owner of Wells Furniture on Main Street, passed away on Oct. 9 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Well known for her generosity and community involvement, Jackson supported numerous local causes & events over the years.

She was named honorary parade marshal for the final Steel Wheel Stampede Parade in 2024, & received the County of Stettler’s community service award earlier this year.

According to Our Town Stettler records, the store originally operated as Sim’s Furniture before being purchased in 1972 by Dick Wells, who renamed it Wells Furniture.

Wells ran the business until 1991, when he sold it to Calvin Blauel. Blauel retained the name until 1996, when Jackson took ownership & continued to operate the store for nearly three decades.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. at Christ King Catholic Church in Stettler.

Overflow seating will be available in the parish hall & at the Performing Arts Centre.

The service will also be live-streamed on the Stettler Funeral Home’s website by Hometown Productions & Media.

A luncheon will follow at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Stettler Community Hall.

Donations in Jackson’s memory can be made to the Heartland Youth Centre, the Stettler Food Bank or a charity of choice.
