Stettler town council is applying for provincial grant funding to help cover the cost of rehabilitating two wastewater lift stations.
In a report presented to council on Nov. 4, administration said lift stations A & B require full rehabilitation, as they have reached the end of their useful service life.
Lift stations are multi-story pump stations that transport wastewater from a lower to a higher area.
Both facilities share nearly identical designs, allowing the town to combine the work under a single contract.
The total project is estimated at $7.67 million, which includes construction, engineering & contingency allowances.
Council voted to apply for funding through the Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership (AMWWP), which could cover 42.56 per cent of the project, or about $3.27 million.
The application deadline for the AMWWP program is Nov. 30, 2025. The town’s share would be $4.41 million if no other funding is secured.
In March 2025, the town also applied for funding under the federal Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF), which could contribute up to 50 per cent of the project cost.
If successful in acquiring both grants, Stettler’s contribution would drop to about $576,000.
