The County of Stettler will support their neighbouring municipality’s bid for provincial funding to improve regional water access.
At its Nov. 26 meeting, council agreed to provide the County of Paintearth with a letter of support for its application to the Alberta Drought & Flood Protection Program.
Paintearth is seeking funding for a proposed truck fill along Highway 601, just east of the County of Stettler boundary.
A formal letter signed by Reeve Larry Clarke, was forwarded ahead of the Dec. 1 application deadline.
The request came two weeks after Stettler filed its own DFPP application. On Nov. 12, council voted to seek up to $750,000 per site to help develop new truck fills near Big Valley, Westwoods & Fenn.
The program covers up to 70 per cent of eligible project costs, with the County estimating its contribution at about $225,000 per location.
Administration said the proposed sites were chosen in response to ongoing drought pressures & increased demand on existing fill stations.
