The County of Stettler has approved funding through its community investment program following discussion at its Jan. 14 council meeting.

Council considered five applications submitted by the Dec. 31, 2025 deadline for the bi-annual funding stream.

Storm Mountain Outfitters received $2,000 for its second annual Coyote Classic, while the Buffalo Lake Big Jack Classic Association was awarded $1,000 for the Big Jack Classic fishing derby.

Meantime, the Stettler & District Music Festival received $500 in support of its 58th annual festival.

Council also passed a second motion to support para swimmer David Bursik through the rural development fund, approving $1,000 for the Stettler Swim Club athlete.

Bursik, who is from the Castor area, was born with albinism & is training with the goal of qualifying for Canada’s Paralympic National Team.

The funding will be used to help offset coaching costs at upcoming qualifying meets.

An application from Big Valley Kids Christmas was deemed ineligible, as the event was considered regional rather than county-based.

Projects funded through the community investment program must be open to the public, operate on a non-profit basis & should benefit the broader community.

The community investment program has an annual budget of $15,000. The next application deadline is May 31, 2026.
