Stettler County will host a second ‘Young Women in Trades’ workshop this spring, aimed at encouraging local girls to explore careers in the skilled trades.

The two-day event first held in April 2025, brought eight students from Wm. E. Hay & the Outreach program to the County shop.

The workshop is organized in partnership with Careers: The Next Generation, a foundation that helps high school students secure internships in various industries.

Participants spent the first day learning about occupational health & safety requirements on a worksite, & were outfitted with steel toed boots & safety glasses they were able to take home.

The second day offered hands-on experiences, including welding, auto repair, firefighting & heavy machinery operation.

Students said the workshop opened their eyes to potential careers they had not previously considered.

A date has not yet been set, but coordinators noted that interest has spread throughout the school since holding the workshop last year.
