Stettler County council received an update on the ongoing Donalda viability review during their Jan. 28 meeting.
Residents of the village are being surveyed until the end of February to determine whether Donalda should remain an independent village, or become a hamlet under the County of Stettler.
Councillors James Nibourg & Justin Stevens, appointed to the review committee, attended an information session hosted by Municipal Affairs at the Donalda school on Jan. 21.
Stevens told council roughly 40 residents attended the session & felt the room fell into three groups: those in favor of dissolution, those opposed, & the largest group being undecided.
He emphasized the committee’s neutral role, stating the ultimate decision rests with the public.
A vote on the village’s future is expected between late spring & fall, with a tentative date of June 21 under consideration.
