The County of Stettler council has approved a partial tax relief arrangement for Bar W RV Resort at Buffalo Lake, following the March 10 council meeting.

The resort, which had previously been denied incentives last year, sought a payment plan to cover its 2025 property taxes.

Council agreed to waive 50 per cent of the outstanding penalties, provided the 2025 taxes & half of the penalties are paid by May 31.

2026 taxes must also be settled by Oct. 31, with any further penalties to apply after February of the following year if conditions are not met.

The motion, put forward by Councillor Justin Stevens, passed by a vote of 4-3.

Bar W Resort occupies land formerly part of the Paradise Shores development, which was downsized after local opposition & legal challenges.

The development has faced years of challenges including low occupancy rates & low water levels at Buffalo Lake.

Partial tax relief was previously granted for 2022 & 2023.
