The Town of Stettler council approved the purchase of a new Zamboni during its March 17 meeting.
The new Zamboni 446 model will replace an aging 2007 model that has been in service for nearly two decades.
The new machine will work alongside the town’s 2016 model to maintain ice surfaces at the Stettler Recreation Centre, the outdoor rink & skating oval at the Lion’s Campground.
While the town’s 2026 Capital Budget had earmarked $165,000 for the purchase, the final tender from Industrial Machine Inc. came in at $154,560 plus GST.
Administration noted that the market is essentially split between two brands in Zamboni & Olympia.
Council heard the Zamboni 446 model was the only unit small enough to maneuver the width of the snow dump pit & garage between the SRC’s two ice sheets.
The new ice-surfacing machine is expected to be delivered in approximately 12 months.
The retiring 2007 unit will be sold privately or sent to auction.
