The old playground by the Fas Gas in Stettler has been upgraded thanks to the local Kinsmen and Kinettes. Also, it is the first fully accessible playground in Stettler.

For about a year, the groups have been working hard to put together fundraisers, like Oktoberfest, to choose a design and to get everything ready for the build.

On September 11, the 3-day build commenced. The Kinsmen and Kinettes led the way, but the groups couldn’t have done it without the help of volunteers. At one point, they had a peak of 35 volunteers on site.

“ It’s an example of many hands make light work because there was a ton of work involved with this and without the community, we never would have been able to do it.” Said Kinsmen member Kirk Blake.

The playground was specifically designed to be Stettler’s first fully accessible playground. There are swings and specific equipment for individuals with mobility issues.

40% of the equipment is wheelchair accessible, and there will be a paved walkway around the park with asphalt paved access so everyone can easily get to the playground.

This was a $350,000 project. This type of project costs more than the standard playground equipment, but it was very important to the Kinsmen and Kinettes to make this accessible to everyone.
