A new mini-golf course in Stettler has been dedicated in honour of former mayor Dick Richards. A ceremony was held Aug 17th in memory of Richards, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 53.
Family, friends and associates from Co-operators Insurance were on hand at the Stettler Town & Country Museum for the inaugural putt.
Many commented it was the perfect dedication to the former mayor, as it highlights his love for Stettler, golf and the well-being of youth in the community.
The project involved several partners, such as the Stettler Public Library, Heartland Youth Centre, Stettler Wellness Network & the Clearview CARS (Caring & Resilient Students) program.
Students from the Wm E. Hay Construction Arts program helped to design and construct the course.
Other partners like Co-operators, A-H-S, Vision Credit Union, Renee Smith Combined Insurance, and the Town & County of Stettler helped bring the project to life.
Richards grew up in Stettler, and spent 29 years with Co-operators Insurance. He was first elected to Town Council in 2002, then served as mayor from 2009 until 2017.
