The County of Stettler council has deferred a request to cost-share the expense of a waterline northwest of Stettler.
The hookup would supply potable water to a residence and provide water for livestock at a property currently serviced by a private well.
To complete the connection, approximately 862 metres of new waterline would need to be installed at the property located at NW 16-40-20-W4.
Preliminary cost estimates for the project total $56,500 plus GST. The quote includes excavation, drilling, installation of a 3-inch pipe & relocation of a flushing hydrant.
Council voted during their June 25 meeting to delegate the area councilor to collect more information from interested parties along the proposed route.
If approved, the $20,000 rural water service connection fee would be paid by the ratepayer. The remaining $36,500 would be funded from County reserves.
Ratepayers may pay the initial $20,000 connection fee or can opt for a 20-year amortization at 4.76 per cent interest, with annual payments of $1,879.71 due each October.
