The Town of Stettler is advocating for increased provincial funding for Alberta’s public libraries, as part of a joint resolution with the City of Calgary.

The resolution calls on Alberta municipalities to advocate for two key changes to provincial library funding:

  • That the Government of Alberta uses the most recent population estimates from the Alberta Municipal Affairs population list when calculating library funding.
  • That the per capita funding rate be increased to $6.94, up from $5.60, to reflect inflation and rising operational costs.

Administration recommended during their July 8 meeting that council pass a motion to bring forward to the Alberta Municipalities Fall Convention.

Council had previously agreed to support this proposal, but it was brought back to the table to refine the wording of the motion.
