Stettler County council has awarded a $353,308 contract to West-Can Seal Coating Inc. for road rehabilitation work on Range Road 195.

The 2.8-kilometre stretch of road, to the south of Cold Lake in Stettler has been identified as a high-priority project this year.

West-Can of Didsbury submitted the lowest bid at $353,308, followed by Border Paving of Red Deer at $731,225 and Grindstone Paving of Crossfield at $922,476.

Work will include micro-surfacing the asphalt & repairing ten areas that require full replacement of the pavement & gravel base.

The micro-surfacing process applies a thin asphalt-aggregate mix to the road, with the aim of extending the pavement life by five to eight years.

The project will be funded through the county’s LGFF Capital Grant. Stettler County has $2.15 million available through the local government fiscal framework grant this year.

$1.4 million was set aside for roadway rehabilitation, with $755,315.00 remaining in the budget.

Administration noted they will be coming back to council with minor paving requests, including an asphalt pad for the new fire hall to wash their fire trucks.

Crews are expected to begin work this month, weather permitting. A yellow centre line will then be painted, with white shoulder lines scheduled for spring 2026.
