The Town of Stettler has approved a memorandum of understanding with the County of Stettler on managing boundary roads.

At their spring joint meeting, both municipalities agreed that clearer direction was needed on how boundary roads are maintained and serviced.

Town administration reviewed the relevant legislation & boundary orders to prepare the MOU, which was presented to council on Oct. 7.

The agreement outlines each municipality’s responsibilities for road maintenance & service levels.

Any service arrangements that differ from the responsibilities set out in the municipal government act will be handled through separate agreements.

One example is 38th Avenue, where County residents recently requested a higher level of service than the Town normally provides.

A separate agreement allows the County to take on specific maintenance & dust control along that stretch.
