Voters Cast Ballots For Town, County & Clearview School Board Races

Residents across Stettler and area are heading to the polls today to elect new representatives for the Town of Stettler council, the County of Stettler, as well as trustees for the Clearview public school board.

Polls are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The municipal & school division races follow the candidate forums earlier this month, where voters raised key issues on doctor recruitment, housing shortages, rural water infrastructure & the future of local schools.

The Town of Stettler’s Oct. 9 forum drew a full house at The HUB, where mayoral candidates Gord Lawlor & Dean Lovell both highlighted the community’s success in attracting physicians through the Stettler Needs Doctors initiative.

Housing shortages were also a top concern, with both candidates agreeing that housing growth must accelerate to meet demand.

Meantime, nine councilor candidates have made their bids over the last month for the six remaining seats on the Stettler Town Council.

County of Stettler

At the County of Stettler forum the day before, rural water infrastructure, lagoon capacity & tourism led the discussion.

Candidates agreed that access to reliable water remains one of the county’s most pressing issues.

County voters will vote in five of the seven wards today at the County of Stettler administration office & halls around the area.

Clearview Public Schools

Meanwhile, Clearview Public Schools voters in Wards 4 and 5 will elect trustees, while the remaining five seats were acclaimed. 

John Schofer faces Daram Van Oers in Ward 4, & Erika Grice faces Wendy Coppock in Ward 5. 

Candidates emphasized the importance of keeping small schools open & full-time kindergarten options during the forum held on Oct. 8

East Central Alberta Catholic

Ryan Bolin was acclaimed as the candidate for Ward 3: Stettler/Killam in the East Central Alberta Catholic Division.

Bolin will replace Duane Austin as the Stettler representative on the Catholic trustee board.
