County Reeve Larry Clarke & Stettler Mayor Gord Lawlor met with members of the Stettler Society For The Prevention Of Family Violence to declare November as Family Violence Prevention Month

County of Stettler Reeve Larry Clarke and Town of Stettler Mayor Gord Lawlor met on Friday, Oct. 31, to sign a joint proclamation declaring November as Family Violence Prevention Month.

The signing took place with members of the Stettler Society for the Prevention of Family Violence in attendance.

The local organization partners annually with both municipalities to raise awareness of family violence.

According to the Government of Alberta, the province has the third-highest rate of self-reported spousal violence among Canadian provinces.

Following the proclamation, the society announced that its annual fundraising calendar is now available. The group’s rose campaign will also begin in the first week of November.

As part of the campaign, roses are placed at participating downtown businesses and left to wilt throughout the month, symbolizing the impact of family violence in communities.

Albertans can access the 24-hour Family Violence Info Line at 310-1818, which offers confidential support in more than 170 languages.
