Clearview Public Schools is highlighting how it determines when buses will run during extreme winter weather.
If the air temperature reaches –35 C or the wind chill drops to –40 C, buses will not operate. This is also the case if visibility is considered unsafe.
However, schools will remain open for students who are able to attend.
Families will be notified of any cancellations through alerts by email, text message & the ParentHub app.
ParentHub can be downloaded from either Google Play or the App Store.
The decision to cancel bus services may be made by either the bus driver or the Director of Transportation.
If a bus driver decides not to operate, they must notify Transportation Services immediately.
Factors such as temperature, wind speed, visibility, freezing rain & overall road safety will be taken into account.
Parents ultimately decide whether to send their children on the bus when it is operating. All staff are expected to report to work where it’s safe to do so.
Clearview also advises all students & staff to be prepared for severe weather & carry suitable winter gear while travelling to and from school.
Parents can check weather conditions each morning using Environment Canada, The Weather Network & 511 Alberta.
