County of Stettler council agreed to pursue provincial funding for three new truck fill stations during its Nov. 12 meeting.
Council voted to apply to the Alberta Drought and Flood Protection Program (DFPP) for up to $750,000 per site to help cover planning & construction costs for stations near Big Valley, Westwoods & Fenn.
The DFPP funds up to 70 per cent of eligible project costs, with municipalities covering the remainder.
The County estimates its share at roughly $225,000 per truck fill, for a combined total of $675,000.
All three projects would be included as part of the County’s 2026 capital budget deliberations.
Administration noted the locations were chosen due to ongoing drought pressures & increased reliance on existing fill stations.
Council also heard that Big Valley may present an opportunity for a public-private partnership, while Westwoods would require roughly four miles of waterline extension as part of the Gadsby Phase 2 project.
The County applied to the DFPP last year but was unsuccessful.
Council directed administration to rank the projects for the application, setting Big Valley as the top priority, followed by Westwoods and Fenn.
