Stettler town council has approved a $5,000 increase to the Heartland Youth Centre’s 2026 budget allocation.
Council first reviewed the request during its Nov. 18 meeting, where members sought more information on the centre’s financial position.
At that time, council approved $50,000 pending clarification.
Updated financial details, including the centre’s 2024 audited statements, were presented to council on Dec. 2.
The documents showed the HYC posted a $19,802 deficit in 2024, & is forecasting an overall deficit of $119,914 in 2026.
The organization plans to pursue additional grants & fundraising to narrow that shortfall.
Council also noted a legacy fund which was bequeathed to the HYC, totals $657,663.
This fund is earmarked for major capital costs, such as a bus replacement & facility repairs.
After reviewing the updated information, council approved the additional $5,000, bringing the town’s contribution to the full $55,000 request.
Interim budget deliberations for the Town of Stettler are set for Dec. 9.
