A group of Stettler homeowners will see an adjustment on their upcoming utility bills after a billing discrepancy involving properties annexed in 2010.

During the Jan. 6 meeting, administration noted 15 properties, primarily in the Repp subdivision & along Tower Road have been underbilled for garbage services since 2022.

The error stems from an incorrect calculation of garbage & recycling rates for residents who opted out of curbside pickup.

As part of the 2010 annexation agreement, residents were granted a 10 year exemption from town garbage & recycling fees.

When that expired, council passed a bylaw allowing residents to receive full curbside collection, or pay a reduced fee.

A recent review found the fee for those who opted out was not adjusted to keep pace with the Town’s garbage contract with E360.

Between 2022 & 2025, each of the 15 affected properties was undercharged by a total of $77.64.

Council directed administrators to not claw back that amount, but to instead implement the corrected rates moving forward.

Formal letters will be sent to the impacted homeowners to explain the correction.

Effective January 2026, affected residents will see an approximate $6 per month increase on their utility bills, with the first bills set to be mailed out on Feb. 10.

Residents who opted out of the service still have the choice to switch to full curbside collection for an additional $9 per month.
