A truck transporting live chickens west toward the Erskine Hutterite Colony was involved in an incident after stopping at the Tim Hortons intersection in Stettler.

According to reports, the truck had stopped at the intersection of 50 Avenue and 67 Street. As the truck accelerated, the load fell from the vehicle, spilling the containers filled with chickens onto the roadway due to the latch not functioning properly.

Burmac Mechanical and Canadian Tire each brought a forklift to help gather the fallen crates and reload them onto the truck, helping clear the scene as quickly as possible.

Stettler RCMP also attended the scene to assist with traffic control and ensure public safety while cleanup efforts were underway.

The incident resulted in a number of chicken fatalities.
