The Town of Stettler has set a mid-November date for auction for six local properties facing tax arrears.
During its Aug. 18 meeting, town council voted unanimously to schedule the public auctions for Nov. 17, 2026, at 1 p.m. at the Town Office.
The decision affects two residential lots and four manufactured homes with a combined assessed value over $560,000.
Under Alberta’s Municipal Government Act, municipalities are obligated to set reserve bids at fair market value.
It was noted while most real estate follows a multi-year recovery timeline, mobile homes need only one year of tax arrears to go to auction.
Property owners retain the right to halt the tax recovery process prior to the Nov. 17 sale by paying all outstanding taxes in full.
If a property fails to sell at the auction, the Town may apply for ownership.
Former owners retain the right to regain the title if all taxes are paid before the municipality sells the property to a third party.
Public notices of the auction will be published following notification to the property owners.
