Expanded fuel reserves are coming to the County of Stettler’s public works fleet following a council decision to upgrade municipal diesel infrastructure.
County council voted Aug. 26 to approve a $39,417.45 contract with Spruce Grove-based All Peace Petroleum for an 11,000-litre fuel storage tank, pump package, and digital tracking software.
The new unit will operate alongside the County’s existing tank at the main operations facility, extending local diesel reserves from three or four days to between seven and nine days.
Municipal officials recommended the investment to prevent costly operational slowdowns.
Over the past year, market volatility has forced the County to purchase premium-grade diesel at higher prices to keep road graders and heavy equipment running without interruption.
Beyond added volume, the platform monitors fuel usage in real time, provides remote shutdown options, and sends immediate alerts to staff if tampering or theft is detected.
The project is funded through the County’s approved 2026 capital budget.
During discussions, Coun. James Nibourg raised the possibility of applying for emergency management grants, with Protective Services staff adding that surplus training funds could also be looked at once year-end accounting is completed.
