Stettler town council has voted to purchase tickets for a paid reception at the annual Alberta Municipalities convention in Edmonton later this month.

During their Sept. 1 meeting, council approved a motion to purchase two passes for Coun. Sharon Fischer and Coun. Cheryl Barros to attend the Host City Reception being held by the City of Edmonton.

The reception carries a ticket price of $25 per person and runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sept. 24.

Town administration noted the reception as a venue for networking with provincial cabinet ministers.

The decision marks a pivot for the municipality, which historically bypassed the ticketed reception for free networking events at the convention.

The Alberta Municipalities Convention and Tradeshow gathers elected officials and administrators from across the province to debate municipal policy and meet with provincial leaders.

Both councilors will file a report to determine whether it was worthwhile to attend when planning for future budgets.
