The East Central Senior Hockey League’s first round matchup between the third-seeded Stettler Imperials and sixth-seeded Irma Aces is heating up.
The quarter-final series started on February 15th in Stettler. There was no scoring in the first period. In the second period the Aces got on the board first with a goal from Bradley Russnak. The third period started with an unfortunate giveaway in front of the Imperials’ net onto the stick of the Aces’ Zach Mackay who fired it past the Imperials netminder. The Imperials would make it a one-goal game after Brenden Tucker scored on a breakaway to make it 2-1 with 6:43 to go in the hockey game.
The Imperials would pull the goalie to try and put another puck past Austin Prior and tie the game, but were unsuccessful. Tyler Fischer would find the empty net and make it 3-1. That would be the final score. Check out the highlights from game one below.
On February 16, game 2 of the five-game series took place. This time in Irma. Just like the first game of the series, both teams were unable to find the back of the net during the first period.
It would be the Imperials that would score twice in the second period and once in the third, en route to a 3-0 victory on the road and tied the series at one game a piece.
Game 3 is back in Stettler on Friday, February 21st. Puck drop is at 8:30 p.m. at the Stettler Rec Centre.
All home games are broadcasted on Hometown Productions and Media’s YouTube Channel.
