Stettler town council has approved a rezoning request that could clear the way for a new self-storage facility in north Stettler.
At its Sept. 16 meeting, council passed an amendment affecting seven lots along Highway 56 and 51 Avenue.
Canalta Real Estate Services Ltd. had asked to rezone two lots at the corner of 46 Street & 51 Avenue from commercial (C1) to highway commercial (C2) to allow for the proposed development.

Administration also recommended council rezone the adjacent lots along 51 Avenue for consistency.
Those properties are home to existing businesses that already conform to permitted uses and won’t be affected by the change.
Council passed first reading on the land use amendment in late July. A public hearing was originally set for Aug. 19, which was postponed until the latest regular meeting.
The proposed facility still requires a development permit, which will be decided by the municipal planning commission.
