Residents of Stettler braved windy conditions on the first Sunday of May to raise more than $13,000 for local hospice care.

The Hike for Hospice, held at West Stettler Park, raised a total of $13,525 for the Stettler hospice suite at Points West.

Organizers described the fundraising total as “spectacular” for the community, noting that supporters & businesses turn out rain or shine to assist the hospice society.

During the latest council meeting, town officials highlighted hurdles that can delay hospice admissions, such as paperwork for admission.

For patients at the end of life, advocates argue that is an unacceptable barrier to accessing comfort and dignity.

Stettler town council recently went on a tour of the suite & are lobbying the provincial government to streamline the paperwork process for admissions.
