The future of a neglected central Alberta fishing site is being looked at.

The County of Stettler has hired Calgary-based SweetTech Engineering Consultants to conduct a feasibility study on Boehlke’s Pond, north of Endiang.

The $96,408 project is funded by a $125,000 provincial grant through the Alberta Community Partnership Program.

Once a thriving fishing hole, Boehlke’s Pond has seen vandalism over the years and deteriorating infrastructure at the location south of Halkirk.

Low oxygen levels also caused multiple “winterkills” that led to the end of fish stocking in 2017.

SweetTech’s study will lay out the costs for two paths: fully rehabilitating the site back into a trout fishery and public park, or letting it transition into a natural wetland.

The firm beat out six other bidders and is expected to deliver its final report and designs to council by September 2026.
