Youth from across the province gathered in Stettler last week for the 4-H Alberta Provincial Beef Heifer and Sheep Show.

The four-day event drew competitors aged 9 to 21 from across Alberta to the Stettler District Agricultural Society grounds.

This year’s event focused on real world business skills by challenging youth with livestock marketing talks, promotions & strategies.

Participants were evaluated on their ability to identify market readiness, and then defend their placements out loud to judges.

Competitors in the sheep division faced off in individual showmanship and show team judging.

A highlight of the weekend was the sheep trimming challenge, where participants had 30 minutes to trim a lamb using their own equipment.

The division also featured the flock show and showcase, which paired beef and sheep members together to handle multiple flocks in the ring.

On the beef side, the show focused on the management of female beef projects, specifically yearling heifers and cow-calf pairs.

The event wrapped up on Saturday with a creative costume class and the presentation of top provincial aggregate awards.
