Press Release – Hon. Pierre Poilievre, P.C., M.P. (Battle River—Crowfoot):
August 18 marks one year since I was given the tremendous honour and responsibility of serving as your Member of Parliament.
This is a constituency that feeds, powers and protects our country, and it is a privilege to
represent the farmers, ranchers, energy workers and brave men and women of CFB Wainwright
who live out the values that make Battle River–Crowfoot remarkable.
Over the past year, I have worked to make sure your voice is heard in Ottawa. That means
standing up for rural communities and fighting against red tape and bureaucracy.
Producers raised concerns about federal government overreach in our agriculture sector, and our Conservative team called for provinces to be allowed to authorize the emergency use of
strychnine and for the proposed livestock traceability regulations to be stopped, so farmers and
ranchers are free to run their operations.
When concerns were raised about the future of federal agricultural research centres, I spoke out
against any closures that would undermine the research producers rely on.
Agriculture is one of the most important industries in our region, and farmers and ranchers cannot afford Liberal decisions that put the future of agricultural research, innovation and food production at risk.
When residents from Amisk, Hughenden, Czar, Metiskow and surrounding communities
demanded better cell service and connectivity, I presented their petition in the House of Commons and pushed for action.
Reliable communications are not a luxury. It is essential for public safety, economic growth and staying connected.
When correctional officers in Drumheller raised concerns about unsafe working conditions, I
called for reforms to better protect officers and to equip federal penitentiaries with technology to
stop contraband-dropping drones.
When the Liberal government imposed its EV mandate, I fought to protect the right of rural
Canadians, farmers, ranchers and workers to choose the vehicles they need.
During the by-election, I promised to provide national leadership while fighting for the priorities
of local families, workers, entrepreneurs, farmers and ranchers.
After eleven years of Liberal mismanagement, Albertans and all Canadians are paying high
prices for food, fuel and housing. Too many families are struggling to get ahead, and too many
young people wonder if they will ever be able to buy a home. Meanwhile, Liberal catch-and-
release policies have unleashed crime into our communities.
That’s why Conservatives are fighting for real solutions such as lower taxes, cutting red tape,
getting government out of the way of building more homes and unleashing the economy. We are
fighting to unblock our resources, create powerful paycheques and keep violent criminals behind bars.
We are also calling on the Liberal government to cancel its planned Labour Day gas tax hike and to remove all federal taxes on gas until at least Canada Day 2027.
Many of the ideas Conservatives championed are now being copied by the Liberals. The
difference is that they stop short of the action needed to get results.
Conservatives were proven right about the consumer carbon tax. The Liberals eventually
scrapped it, but stopped short of removing the industrial carbon tax and Clean Fuel Regulations.
These taxes continue to drive up the cost of energy, transportation and manufacturing.
Canadians deserve better than broken promises and Liberal illusions. They deserve real results.
The communities of Battle River–Crowfoot are part of the backbone of Canada, and I am proud
to represent you.
I will continue fighting for our farmers, ranchers, energy workers, small businesses, veterans and military families. I will keep standing up for rural Alberta while holding this Liberal government to account.
I want to thank my predecessor Damien Kurek, and his wonderful wife Danielle, for their
dedicated service to this riding. Their friendship, advice and support is deeply appreciated.
I am also grateful for my hardworking constituency team and, most importantly, to the people of
Battle River–Crowfoot for your trust and support.
It is an honour to serve you and I will continue fighting every day to restore the promise of
Canada.
