Big Valley’s Zeke Thurston Captures Fourth Calgary Stampede Saddle Bronc Title

Zeke Thurston of Big Valley, claimed his fourth Calgary Stampede saddle bronc title on Sunday, marking his first Stampede win since 2017.

Thurston rode to a commanding 92.5-point score, adding to his previous Stampede championships from 2015 to 2017.

The 31-year-old is a four-time PRCA World Champion (2016, 2019, 2022, 2023) and five-time CPRA Canadian Champion (2019, 2021–2024) in saddle bronc riding.

Two other Alberta competitors also earned championship honours at this year’s Stampede.

Scott Guenthner of Provost, took the steer wrestling title with a 3.7-second run and was awarded the Guy Weadick Award, which recognizes the competitor who best exemplifies the Stampede spirit.

Shelby Boisjoli-Meged of Langdon, won the inaugural breakaway roping championship with a time of 2.2 seconds, as the event made its debut at the Stampede.
