The Town of Stettler has approved a budget adjustment following an emergency repair near the water treatment plant earlier this fall.

Council discussed the issue during its Dec. 16 meeting, where administration outlined the break on Nov. 3 that required outside assistance.

The failure occurred on a 75 mm bypass line just off of the transmission line running from the water treatment plant to the town.

The line affected was in a concrete-encased steel pipe, which was beyond the scope of repairs that can be handled by town crews.

A crew from Trenchless Guys of Red Deer responded & completed the repair the same night, working alongside town staff. The cost of the emergency work totalled $25,000.

Administration told council the town maintains reserve funds within the water treatment plant budget to address equipment failures & unplanned repairs.

Council accepted the recommendation, allowing the expense to be funded through a transfer of existing reserves.
