Municipal leaders in the Stettler region turned their focus toward the health-care sector this month, signing a series of proclamations to recognize local medical professionals and emergency responders.
Representatives from both the Town of Stettler and the County of Stettler gathered Monday at the Stettler Regional Board of Trade to sign a joint proclamation declaring May 25 to 29 as Alberta Rural Health Week.
The annual initiative, spearheaded provincially by (RhPAP), aims to celebrate medical professionals and volunteers working outside major urban centres.
RhPAP recently announced that the Stettler & District Ambulance Association has been named the recipient of the 2026 Healthcare Heroes Rhapsody Award.
Officials confirmed that community celebrations to honour the ambulance association are being planned for the coming weeks.
Additional Proclamations Signed
The rural health initiative capped off a busy month of declarations.
On May 21, local officials gathered to mark Paramedic Services Week (May 17 to 23) and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Awareness Month.
According to data from the MS Society of Canada, Alberta has one of the highest rates of the neurological disease globally, with roughly 340 out of every 100,000 residents living with MS.
Nationwide, approximately one in 400 Canadians live with the illness, and an average of 12 new diagnoses are made every day.
The county council also voted to formally recognize National Nursing Week, which ran from May 11 to 17.
