A local high school graduate has been awarded a $1,000 bursary following a decision by the County of Stettler council.
At its May 27 meeting, council named Samantha McNeil as the recipient of the 2026 Agricultural Service Board Bursary.
McNeil was selected from a pool of four applicants.
The annual award recognizes high school graduates entering post-secondary education who have demonstrated a strong awareness of agriculture’s role in the survival of rural areas.
During the county meeting, elected officials debated whether future selections should be delegated to the ASB or remain at the council table.
Council decided to retain control of the decision, noting that the selection process requires minimal time.
McNeil will be contacted and invited to accept the award at a future Agricultural Service Board meeting.
